A PARK picnic music festival in Crediton will tap into the town's “vibrant” music scene.

Crediton Community Music Picnic 2014 takes place on September 21 at the Bandstand in Newcombes Meadow, Crediton - and event organiser Ed Rennie says the festival is a great opportunity for people to hear a range of local music in a picturesque setting.

He said: “Crediton is vibrant with music making and has some great community music groups.

“This free event is an opportunity for families and all the folks of Crediton to come and hear some great music and have an opportunity to chat with the musicians and singers about their various groups.

“I'd like to thank the Town Council for their support and permission to use the Bandstand and to put on this great event.

“Newcombes Meadow is such an asset to the town, as are the Community Music groups, so it makes sense to get them both together - what's not to like?”

The festival will feature performances by The Casbah (Crediton Allstar Street Band), The New Choir, The Crediton Town Band and The West Gallery Choir - while Alison Whittall, the new leader of Crediton World Music Choir, will lead some simple and easy harmony singing.

Organiser, Ed continued: “We'd like as many people as possible to come and enjoy this free event. And if it makes you think “I'd love to do that!” have a chat with someone. The groups are always looking for new singers and musicians and of course they love talking about what they do.”

Entry is free and the event gets under way at 12.30pm.
