FIRE crews were sent to tackle a fire in a chicken house near Tiverton this afternoon.

Two engines from Wellington and one from Cullompton were sent to an address in Westleigh at around 3.10pm.

A fire service spokesman said: “On arrival, crews confirmed smoke issuing from a chicken shed measuring approximately 40m x 10m with an unknown quantity of chickens inside.”

The fire was put out but the cause remains unclear.
