Fire crews called to overheated lorry on M5
FIRE crews were called to the M5 near Cullompton this morning (October 26) after a heavy goods lorry overheated.
The fire service was called by police who reported an overheated exhaust on a lorry on the M5 northbound between J29 Sowton and J28 Cullompton at around 10am.
One fire crew from Middlemoor, Exeter, and one team from Danes Castle, Exeter, attended.
A fire service spokesman said: "Fire crews confirmed a small fire involving the wheel arch and exhaust system of a heavy goods vehicle.
"Police had used a fire extinguisher on the vehicle but the exhaust was still very hot. The fire was out on the arrival of fire crews, who inspected the vehicle using a thermal image camera and cooled the exhaust with one hose reel jet. The cause of the fire is believed to be accidental."
