Devon busker hits the right notes with Tiverton shoppers
4:00pm Sunday 25th August 2013 in Mid Devon News
A STREET musician from Devon scooped a £100 prize for capturing the biggest crowd at The Busker Open Day in Tiverton.
Neil George Quaintance, from Exeter, who goes by the stage name Dude, connected with shoppers on Saturday morning better than any of the other 13 acts who took part in the inaugural event.
Organiser Caroline Rutley Frayne from the Town Team presented him with the prize.
Musicians and street artists performed at five town centre locations at the event, which aimed to boost trade and lift spirits.
It began in Phoenix Lane with an hour-long performance by Tiverton Town Band which ended with a version of Coldplay’s Viva la Vida, as well as acoustic musicians, street dance troupes and jugglers.
The event was organised to help improve the economic fortunes of Tiverton through the town’s Portas Pilot status and is likely to be repeated in the future after getting the thumbs up from visitors and traders alike.
