A MAN had to be cut free after a 4x4 vehicle towing a trailer overturned on the M5 southbound near Cullompton this morning.

Three fire fighting appliances from Cullompton, Middlemoor and Tiverton and the heavy rescue appliance from Middlemoor responded to the incident between junctions 28 and 29 shortly after 9.30am.

Upon arrival, crews discovered one male casualty was trapped and hydraulic rescue equipment was used to cut him free.

The man was suffering from chest pains and minor cuts and is now in the hands of the ambulance service.
