Skate for health in Tiverton

YOUNGSTERS in Tiverton will be getting their skates on as part of a new project being run by the Exeter School Sport Partnership.

As part of the project, students from Tiverton High School and East Devon College will pay weekly visits to Tiverton Skate Park with skate instructor Tim Ruck.

The project, funded by the Big Lottery, aims to promote use of alternative sports and facilities for healthy lifestyles in a controlled safe environment with training and guidance available.

Kealey Sherwood, director of community for the Exeter School Sport Partnership, said: “We are delighted to be working in partnership with Mid Devon District Council to offer the young people of Tiverton the opportunity to access structured skateboarding sessions and are hugely grateful for their support.

“Having a role model like Tim working with the youngsters to provide them with the skills needed to skate safely and well will be hugely beneficial.

“Our ultimate ambition is that these youngsters will go on to use the skate park on a regular basis.”

Cllr Jane Campbell, portfolio holder for community well being, added: “Street sports are really popular throughout the district and we are very pleased to support this project which will introduce young people to the sport and improve the skills of those who already use the facilities provided by the district council.”
