THERE'S a treat in store for young Doctor Who fans at Exeter Central Library this month. They will have an opportunity to meet one of the stars of the popular television show.
Writer, director and actor Nicholas Pegg will be reading his tale 'Hold Your Horses' from the new Doctor Who Storybook next Wednesday, November 19.
The visit has been organised to celebrate the National Year of Reading.
The theme throughout November is ‘Screen Reads, exploring reading through film and television.
Exeter University graduate Nicholas Pegg is extremely well-qualified to write about the Doctor, as he has spent a great deal of time trying to exterminate him: as an actor, he appears regularly in the famous BBC series in the role of a Dalek.
In addition, he has written and directed several radio episodes of Doctor Who for BBC7.
Nicholas has also enjoyed a lengthy career in the theatre, including productions for the Theatre Royal Plymouth, Nottingham Playhouse, Scottish Opera, Harrogate Theatre and Birmingham Repertory Theatre.
His other television roles include appearances in EastEnders and Doc Martin.
Nicholas has written over thirty theatre shows for children, and is also the author of the acclaimed reference book The Complete David Bowie.
His short stories ‘Deep Water’ and ‘Hold your Horses’ appear in the 2008 and 2009 Doctor Who Storybooks.
"A great deal of my childhood was spent reading stories about Doctor Who," said Nicholas, "so it's a pleasure and a privilege to find myself contributing to the Doctor's adventures for a new generation of young readers.”
