1:30pm Wednesday 10th September 2008

DEVON’S cycling ambassador Andrei Burton has achieved his best-ever result in the final round of the UCI Mountain Bike Trials World Cup.

The 21-year-old from Exeter finished sixth at Moutier in Switzerland at the weekend.

The result puts Andrei in the top seven in the world.

Andrei, who is Devon County Council’s cycling ambassador, demonstrated his skills in Tiverton town centre prior to the Tour of Britain today on Tuesday.

He said: “I’m pretty proud of this result. It’s really nice to finish the year on a high and this stands me in good stead for next year.”

Councillor Margaret Rogers, the council’s Executive Member for Environment, said: “It is another feather in Andrei's cap as well as that of our national cycling.

"Congratulations to Andrei who is a remarkable cyclist and role model to all, especially young people in Devon."
