THE young and old enjoyed the Grand Western Canal family fun day despite the wet weather.

Around 30 children attended with their parents, guardian’s and grandparents and everyone enjoyed activities such as pond dipping, arts and crafts, face painting and traditional games.

Ranger Jo Roberts said: “The children got to do activities which tested their hand-eye co-ordination including throwing hoops and balls into a target to try and build up their scores. All the children that attended the afternoon event, won a wooden medal, made out of hazel tree from the canal, as a prize.”

The Grand Western Canal Country Park meanders through the mid-Devon countryside between Tiverton and Lowdwells.

The Country Park is managed for recreation, wildlife and historic interest and appeals both to local communities and visitors alike.

The Canal Basin in Tiverton is home to the much-loved horse-drawn barge that has been taking passengers for trips along the canal since 1974.
