Brittany Ferries cancellations continue due to ongoing strikes
2:58pm Wednesday 26th September 2012 in Devon
Sailing out of Plymouth on Brittany Ferries will be cancelled until at least Friday due to ongoing strike action.
The series of strikes from French crewmembers has caused disruption to the ferry company’s services to and from France and Spain.
All sailing has been cancelled today and tomorrow, with the 08:00 Plymouth to Roscoff service this Friday also affected.
The company said that meetings will continuing this afternoon at its head office in Roscoff, involving the management and French crew unions.
In a statement on its website Brittany Ferries has said: “As yet, no agreement has been reached which will enable the company to resume services which therefore remain suspended, except the Poole-Cherbourg passenger service, which is operated on Brittany Ferries’ behalf by Condor Ferries.
“In the meantime we have had to cancel some sailings to and from France and Spain.”
It is understood the strikes, which began last Thursday, are due to proposals to withdraw workers’ allowances and change their working hours.
Passengers have been advised to travel to Dover, where the company currently has special arrangements in place with P&O Ferries and MyFerryLink to accept Brittany Ferries tickets. Unused Brittany Ferries crossings will be refunded.
The company added: “Brittany Ferries very much regrets the effect the disruption will have on our customers but is hopeful that a resolution will be found soon, as discussions with the unions are on-going.”
