Call to capture the beauty of the Bay
10:02am Wednesday 12th September 2012 in Devon
Torbay Council is calling on all budding photographers to capture the beauty of the Bay's green spaces on camera.
The 'It's your park, picture it' competition has been launched by Torbay Council's Natural Environment Team to encourage residents, who enjoy Torbay's many beautiful parks, playgrounds and woodlands to capture their visits on camera.
The competition is open to everyone, whether they are using a camera for the first time or are an experienced photographer and no expensive equipment is necessary as photos will be judged on imagery not technicality.
Cllr Jeanette Richards, said: "We are very lucky to be surrounded by some beautiful open spaces, parks and gardens here in Torbay. They play a vital role for quality of life and civic pride and the competition aims to showcase them through the eyes of our residents and visitors.
The judging categories will be:
* Junior category for ages 15 and under
* Adult category for ages 16 and over
Prizes will be awarded for the first, second and third place winners in both categories and include:
First place - family season ticket (2 adults and 3 children) to Paignton Zoo and Living Coasts. Second place - flip video ultra camcorder with 4GB memory camera. Third place - family tickets to Kent's Cavern and Bygones.
Anyone who would like to find out more about the competition or to upload their photos to the competition's Flickr group should go to http://www.torbay.gov.uk/pictureit.htm. Up to five photos can be submitted and the closing date is Wednesday, October 31 2012.
All submissions must clearly state the title of the park and location, the category being entered as well as the photographers name and age. Under 16s must state their age at date of entry and must obtain permission from a parent or guardian to enter the competition.
