Serious head injury after Plymouth assault

A man has been arrested after a woman had to be hospitalised with a serious head injury after an alledged assault in Plymouth.

Police were called at around 11.45pm on Tuesday, July 17, after the 44-year-old local woman was admitted to Derriford Hospital.

Police then attended an address in Neath Road in the St Judes area of the city in the early hours of Wednesday, July 18 and arrested a 58-year-old man on suspicion of assault.

He was taken into custody at Charles Cross Police Station, where he remains awaiting interview.

A police spokesman said that officers from CID are investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident and are keeping "open minds as to what took place.
