'Serious chest injuries' after Newton Abbot assault

Police are asking for witnesses to come forward after an assault in Newton Abbot in the early hours of the morning of July 5.

Officers were called to Ashburton Road between 1.45am and 2am today after reports of a disturbance.

Paramedics were in attendance at the scene and were treating a man, aged in his fifties, in the street.

The man was taken to Torbay District Hospital with serious chest injuries and was later transferred to Derriford for further treatment. The victim was walking with dogs at the time of the attack.

Police are keen to hear from anyone who was in the area at the time of the incident or who may have heard a disturbance in the street to contact them.
