Bomb squad called out for suspicious package in Dawlish

The bomb squad was called out to Dawlish after a suspicious package was found next to a bank in the town.

At 2.30pm on Sunday, April 1 a member of the public drew police attention to a "suspect package" which had been left unattended close to the National Westminster Bank, Brookdale Terrace, Dawlish.

A police spokesman said: "In response, a cordon was put in place to ensure public safety. This involved the adjacent railway line being closed for one and a half hours as well as a diversion being put in place to keep traffic from entering Dawlish town centre.

Bomb disposal experts were drafted in and used specialist equipment to determine that the package posed no risk to the public.
