HIGHWAYS bosses are trying to get motorists to change their ways on an accident blackspot road through Mid Devon.
They are “closely observing” the A377 from Exeter to Barnstaple, via Crediton, where there were seven serious accidents between 2008 and 2010, according to Devon County Council figures.
A spokesman for the county council said: “Over-taking has been a common feature in the majority of reported incidents.
“This has been compounded by drivers travelling too fast for the conditions or too close to the vehicle in front of them.
“A double white line system is in place on the road to help make it clear to drivers where overtaking is restricted.
“This is supported by chevron markers on bends and by vehicle-activated signing which warns of excess or inappropriate speeds.”
The spokesman said there has been increased enforcement and education on the road, targeting driver and rider behaviour.
