THE Meningitis Trust would like to thank the participants from Devon who recently spent a weekend trekking Britain's three tallest peaks; Snowdon, Scafell Pike, and Ben Nevis as part of the gruelling Three Peaks Challenge event.

People from across the country raised a total of £93,000 which will be used to help provide practical and emotional support to people devastated by meningitis.

Participants were put through their paces as they climbed 3,406m and raced against time to finish the challenge within the 36 hour time limit. The trek took them through some of Britain's most dramatic and rugged landscapes and this year participants encountered particularly challenging and unseasonal weather conditions with strong winds, heavy rain and even snow.

"We would particularly like to thank the team of 28 people from FOCUS DIY stores across the UK who raised an incredible £21,000" said Steve Williams, Three Peaks Challenge organiser at the Meningitis Trust.

"We are now looking for participants for 2008 and are hoping that more people from Devon and Cornwall will join us. The challenge is fully organised with transport, food, accommodation and safety teams - all you have to do is walk."

Alana Vidler and Andrea Gysin who took part in this year's challenge said: "We had a fantastic time and are both so glad we decided to take part and complete the challenge, and are also glad we chose to complete it with the Meningitis Trust.'
