A SERIES of posts on circulating social media about planned terrorist attacks across the region have been branded as unfounded rumours by Devon and Cornwall Police.

The force said that they are aware of stories circulating on social media about apparent attacks at specific sites and times.

The current threat across the UK from international terrorism remains ‘severe’, meaning an attack is highly likely.

The increased level of activity is matched by UK police, security and intelligence services who are working tirelessly and at pace to confront the terrorist threat and keep the public safe.

A spokesperson for the police said: "We would like to reassure the public that these are unfounded rumours.

"However, due to the general level of threat we urge the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity using the Anti-Terrorist Hotline on 0800-789321."
