THE big event of the year for Mid Devon’s Young at Heart club is fast approaching as they prepare to celebrate Christmas.

The club, which is based in The Burlescombe and Westleigh Community Hall and serves people over 60 in Mid Devon and West Somerset, is holding its Christmas party on December 18.

Lloyd Yorke, the chairman of the Young at Heart club, said: “This is the big event of the year for our club, it is the Christmas party.

“For some of our members, coming to us may be the only hot meal they get each week.

“This is our second Christmas and we have seen a big increase in members during the last 12 months.”

The main event at the party will be the club’s Christmas draw, which is a culmination of the Young at Heart club’s fundraising efforts throughout the year.

The club, which normally meets weekly on Mondays and Fridays, is giving away a grand prize of a luxury Christmas hamper, as well as three smaller hampers and 30 other gifts and prizes.

The event will also see members settle down for a huge Christmas lunch with all the trimmings, as well as enjoying games and other activities.

The club also provides transport for its members, catering for members from areas such as Wellington, Taunton and Cullompton.

The day will be finished off with a carol singing performance.
