A NEW luxury mixed use development on the English Riviera has been completed by Kay Elliott Architects.

Abbey Sands, a six-storey scheme is situated on a prominent waterfront location in central Torquay with views across the bay towards Berry Head, was inspired by the original historic crescent building, and takes advantage of the elegant sweep of the bay at Torre Abbey Sands.

The design is influenced by the art-deco style of the British seaside, and presents a contemporary interpretation of the ‘Riviera style.’ With curving balconies and fine balustrade detailing, the design references the art-deco aesthetic of the ocean liner.

On the ground floor the vibrant restaurant frontages sit within a newly landscaped promenade featuring pebble seating areas and granite paving.

All floors will accommodate modern, two bedroom single aspect and three bedroom dual-aspect open market residential units.

On the top floor are two large luxury penthouses with breath-taking views over the bay.

Tanya Griffiths, Director at Kay Elliott said: “Abbey Sands is a true celebration of Riviera style - a lot of effort was put into designing a building that captures the Riviera spirit updated for the 21st century.

“Tourism is the Torquay’s main industry and we were determined to design a stunning new landmark that would revitalise the waterfront and which is attractive to younger and older residents and visitors.”
