GOT a new gadget but not sure how to make the most of it?

Exeter Library’s free ‘Gadget Club’ offers help to anyone wanting to learn about how to use their smart phone, laptop or tablet, or those thinking of getting one and who want to find out more about them.

The drop in sessions, which are being delivered in partnership with John Lewis, will take place on the first working Monday of every month between 9am and 12 noon. There’s no need to book, just turn up.

Library staff and John Lewis Partners will be on hand to demonstrate how to use a range of electronic equipment and help people explore useful apps and websites using the library’s free wi-fi.

They will also be offering help with e-readers, and can show members how to use the library’s free E-book service.

Cllr Roger Croad, Devon County Council’s Cabinet Member with responsibility for the Library Service, said: “Even a basic knowledge of how to use a smart phone or tablet, especially to get online, can significantly change people’s lives.

“Residents can often engage with Government and Local Councils quickly and easily via their website or by using social networking sites, and discover what services they provide locally.

"For some people, accessing the internet to find out information and communicate with others can improve their quality of life, helping them to remain independent and I encourage everyone to take advantage of these sessions.”

Elaine Puttock, Branch Operations Assistant at John Lewis, said: “We are delighted to have the opportunity to contribute to the amazing work Exeter Library do to support people in and around Exeter and to forge new relationships with the local community.”
