FIRE crews battled a large house fire in Honiton into the early hours of this morning (Saturday).

Ten fire engines attended the blaze and two dogs needed to be rescued from the property.

Firefighters tackled the blaze eventually succeeding in containing the flames late on Friday night.

Crews stayed at the scene until the early hours of this morning when the flames were doused and the scene was considered safe.

No-one was injured in the incident. 

Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service received a call to reports of a roof on fire in the domestic property at around lunchtime on Friday.

On arrival, crews found smoke issuing and requested further assistance with police, ambulance and Fire Emergency Support Service are also at the scene.

The fire service have confirmed that half of the roof and the first floor of the building suffered fire, smoke and water damage and the ground floor of the property obtained water damage. 

A fire engine from Honiton will be reattending today (Saturday) to check for further hotspots.

The cause was found to be accidental.
