A woman has been arrested after a man was found in the Torquay doorway with serious head injuries.

Police say that the alleged assault took place between 5.40pm and 6pm on Thursday, February 19 near the junction of GPO roundabout/ Rock Rd, Torquay.

A 66 year-old man sustained serious head injuries.

The man was found by an ambulance crew in the doorway of Cafe Grill, opposite Tesco Metro in Fleet Walk, Torquay.

The victim was taken to Torbay District Hospital and later transferred to Derriford Hospital where he remains in a stable condition.

A wallet and mobile phone belonging to the victim have not been found.

A 25 year-old woman from Torquay was arrested on suspicion of robbery and has been released on police bail until May 18, 2015 pending further enquiries.

Detective Sgt Chris Tapley said: “We believe a number of people may have witnessed the incident and we are keen for anyone with information to come forward."
