THG (Thelma Hulbert Gallery) has been shortlisted in the 2014 Devon Tourism Awards as one of the finalists in the Access & Inclusivity Award category.

The Honiton gallery is set to win either a Gold, Silver or Bronze award at this year’s Devon Tourism Awards ceremony at the Highbullen Hotel, Umberleigh, North Devon, on Wednesday 19 November.

“This year saw a record of 130 entries into the Devon awards – over 25% up on last year – and our teams of judges have been kept very busy up to the last minute,” said Awards Organiser Robin Barker, Director of Services for Tourism.

Mystery visits

“Part of the judging involved 80 visits to businesses – often mystery visits – and judges were looking for all elements of the finalists to be excellent, with some of them outstanding. To be amongst the winners, given the level of competition, is a very significant achievement indeed”.

Angela Blackwell,THG curator, added: “We're thrilled to be finalists in these prestigious awards. We have worked hard to make the gallery accessible to all - not only those with physical disabilities but those experiencing mental health problems or living with dementia. This year all our staff and volunteers have undertaken training from a Dementia Champion to make sure we are welcoming to all”.
