FOUR golfers from a South Devon golf club took on an epic sporting challenge with a difference last week to raise money for the Children’s Hospice South West.

The challenge combined a love for cycling and golf as the group from Wrangaton Golf Club covered over 220 miles by bike and played 72 holes in just four days.

The four-man team was headed up by Stuart Newberry, Club Captain, Wrangaton Golf Club, who wanted to mark his year of captaincy by doing something memorable and ‘slightly mad’.

He was joined by three members of the club, Charles Grose, Andy Dykes and Matt Westmoreland, in support, who, together raised a total topping £3,500.

As well as gaining donations for the four days of cycling and golf, a number of other events took place before and during the challenge, including a Captain’s Day competition at Wrangaton Golf Club, an Ice Bucket Challenge and a raffle at Exeter Golf Club.

"I wanted to mark my year as captain by taking on a challenge with a difference in order to raise money for a wonderful cause.” said Stuart Newberry, Wrangaton Golf Club.

“We were pleased that we were able to do something that involved the other three 1895 golf clubs in the South West, and the support we had from them and their members showed how we can work together to make a difference in our community."
