Officers investigating a burglary in Plymouth are appealing for information after a number of unique items including military service medals were stolen.

Four medals were taken from a property in Taunton Avenue, Whitleigh, sometime between 11pm on Tuesday 23 September and 6am on Wednesday 24 September.

The Queen’s Diamond Jubilee, the Queen’s Golden Jubilee, Northern Ireland General Service and Accumulated Service medals were all taken after thieves entered the property via a patio door.

A number of other army-related items were taken including a green army jumper with ‘Army Commando’ flashes or badges, two folders called ‘TAMs Tactical Aide Memoirs’, small hardback books about knots with some ropes, a military driving licence which includes the victim’s name and service number, and an army fitness guide book.

Other stolen items include a large black Mountain Equipment bag with a bright yellow waterproof lining (similar to the one pictured) and a bright red Papaya Weekend shower proof jacket with a hood.

DC Riley, from Crownhill CID, said: “These are very distinctive items and the medals in particular are of huge sentimental value to the victim.

“We are hoping someone will have seen the stolen property or been offered the items for sale, and we would urge them to get in touch with police.”

Detectives would like to hear from anyone who knows the whereabouts of the items or who witnessed any suspicious activity in the Taunton Avenue area around the time of the burglary.

Anyone with information that could assist with the investigation is asked to call police on 101 quoting reference CR/109133/14, or alternatively call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
