Bantham beach and village in South Devon has been sold for over £11 million.

The  750-acre seaside estate has been bought by Nicholas Johnston, owner of the the Great Tew Estate in Oxfordshire, estate agents have confirmed.

The land, which includes a number of cottages had been in the same family for over 100 years, and the new owner has said they hope they would be seen as "sensitive and considerate new owners”

Mr Johnston told BBC News he would not be making any major changes to the estate.

Saying: "I have not gone in with a sheet of new ideas. The estate has been maintained in a beautiful form and I am sure you will fundamentally see more of the same from us."

Adding that exisiting tennants "would not notice any change at all".

The National Trust had been in the running to buy the beach and estate.
