EXETER Corn Exchange has released details of the new events programme for the autumn and winter period.

The season kicks off on 26 September with a performance by space rock legends Hawkwind featuring band founder Dave Brock.

In total contrast, this is followed on October 1 by the International Ocean Film Festival with an extraordinary collection of films documenting the beauty and power of the oceans.

After a record-breaking spring season the first Exeter Comedy Club evening of the new season is on 3 October with the usual format of four top performers from the national stand-up circuit.

This is followed on October 4 by Animals & Friends featuring two of the original Animals; one of the biggest selling artists of the 1960s.

Exeter is likely to be the butt of the jokes when Mark Steel is ‘Back in Town’ on 8 October as part of his tour looking at the amusing side of towns and cities around the UK and on 10 October the venue hosts Dire Straits’ John Illsley and his band performing their new album and the music of Dire Straits.

Vienna Festival Ballet returns to the Corn Exchange on 12 October with their production of The Nutcracker and there is comedy the following evening, 13 October, from Omid Djalili with his new show Iranalamadingdong.

On 15 October cult favourites John Otway and Wild Willy Barrett perform their inimitable music in cabaret and on 17 October German comedian Henning Wehn will no doubt delight in talking about his country’s success in this year’s World Cup.

There is more comedy on 18 October, this time from the pub landlord – Al Murray, and psychic Colin Fry appears on 20 October.

The UK’s top male glamour group, The Dreamboys, return to the venue on 22 October and Whole Lotta Led perform their tribute to Led Zeppelin on 24 October.

November starts with a welcome return to Exeter for Kinky & Quirky with their amazing Burlesque and Boogie evening on 1 November and the second Exeter Comedy Club evening of the season is on 7 November.

There is more comedy, this time from David O’Doherty on 9 November and Blues Rock guitarist Joanne Shaw Taylor appears on 12 November with her special guest; Whitesnake guitarist Bernie Marsden.

There is comedy from Jason Manford on 14 November and the Corn Exchange hosts another of its famous Bhangra Extravaganzas on 15 November featuring festival favourites RSVP with food provided by Exeter Friends of Gujarat.

Traffic of the Stage presents William Shakespeare’s Macbeth on November 17 and top singer/songwriter Joan Armatrading performs in concert on November 21.

The venue hosts the annual Cruelty Free Fair on November 22 and on the following evening,  November 23, The Blockheads, the late Ian Dury’s band, will rock the Corn Exchange.

On November 28, the multi award-winning show; Motown and Philadelphia on Tour visits the venue. Crikey Vintage host a vintage fair and dance on November 29 and the autumn season closes on 30 November with Marcus Brigstocke’s new show Je M'accuse - I Am Marcus.

Tickets are also on sale for this year’s pantomime Jack and the Beanstalk running from 13 December until 4 January and three Exeter Comedy Club Christmas Specials on 10, 11 and 12 December.
