SHONA Morley completed a grueling 100km sponsored walk on 19th July and raised over £1700 for Dartmouth Caring.

The event ‘Race to the Stones’ started at Chinnor, Oxfordshire and finished 62 Miles later in Avebury, Wiltshire. The ultramarathon route took competitors along The Ridgeway, which is recognised as the oldest path in the UK where you will find traces of generations stretching back over 5,000 years.

It is lined with Bronze Age hill forts, Neolithic burial chambers, and Roman river crossings and culminates in the largest Neolithic stone circle complex in Europe. Shona completed the walk in just under 26hrs walking non-stop and managed to raise £1765 for Dartmouth Caring, a remarkable effort.

"Looking for a challenge to keep fit I came across this crazy walk," said Shona.

"My motivation for completing the walk was to help others and the idea of a local charity appealed. My very close friend Sally Kaldor has always sung the praises of Dartmouth Caring and they have been a tremendous support to her and her husband, Andras. I know that everything I managed to raise will go directly to those who need their services.

"Walking nonstop for such a distance really was a challenge but knowing I was doing it for a wonderful charity kept me going. I would urge anyone who is thinking of doing anything similar to think about supporting Dartmouth Caring."

Dartmouth Caring trustees are delighted and very grateful for Shona’s incredible support.

The charity is almost completely funded by donations so generosity like this make a huge difference to the charity and the services they provide.
