Police in Torbay are appealing for witnesses after a fire at Paignton bus station destroyed two double deckers.

The blaze on Dartmouth Road is thought to have been started deliberately sometime between 3.50am and 4.20am on Sunday.

A police spokesperson said: “Fortunately, nobody was injured by this large fire and despite the risk Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue service dealt with the blaze quickly and safely.”

Police are treating this fire as suspicious with Torbay CID attending with scenes of crime officers and fire investigators.

A police spokesperson added: “We know that a number of people were out and about enjoying a night out in the town during the early hours of Sunday morning and they could be potential witnesses to this serious offence. We would urge anyone with information to contact us.”

Anyone with information is asked to call the police on 101, quoting the crime number CR/081506/14 for the attention of the investigating officer DC Eggar at Torquay Police Station.
