EXPERIENCE first-hand what it’s like to play within an orchestra, or to lead an orchestra in the role of conductor, at the launch of the iOrchestra RE-RITE installation in Plymouth City’s Piazza.
Opening to the public on 29 April, the fixture will be in place for two weeks until 10 May and is a large scale, walk-through experience of a digital virtual orchestra.
A pioneering digital music project led by the Philharmonia Orchestra, and working in close collaboration with Plymouth City Council, Plymouth City Centre Company, Destination Plymouth and Plymouth Music Education Hub, iOrchestra combines the latest interactive digital technology with live performances, designed to enthuse and excite a new audience about classical music.
Funded by Arts Council England and the David & Elaine Potter Foundation, other activities in the free programme of events will include MusicLab, a mobile installation offering visitors (including school and community groups) a series of hands-on musical experiences.
Orchestra Unwrapped is a special key-stage concert for schools, and The Big Finish is the culmination of this cultural contribution: a free live open air concert at the RE-RITE site, of the full Philharmonia Orchestra on 11 May.
