MEADOWLANDS Leisure Centre is displaying a series of Floating Fish art works, which are the result of collaboration between Tavistock Area Learning Community (TALC) and Tavistock College.

Laura Hopes, teacher and art specialist from Lifton Primary school, teamed up with head teacher, Melanie Cripps, to host a workshop providing children aged 9 to 11 from across Tavistock with the opportunity to make the sculptures.

The budding artists were provided with willow withies and coloured tissue papers and managed to create a great haul of amazing fish sculptures.

The event was organised by the TALC enrichment group for talented artists and was attended by 4 to 5 children from 16 schools across Tavistock and the surrounding area.

The sculptures will be on display for the next few weeks before the budding Michelangelo’s take their works back to schools all over Tavistock and surrounding areas.

All the children who were involved in the project will pass on skills and knowledge to their class mates as art leaders within their schools For more information about Meadowlands Leisure Centre, please visit: www.1life.co.uk

Jon Smith, Contract Manager at Meadowlands Tavistock said: The sculptures that we have on display at Meadowlands Tavistock are truly amazing. Seeing so many smiling school children from across the local area enjoying the workshop under the tutelage of Laura was a great sight indeed and the children created some beautiful works of art.
