Police are asking for the public’s help to identify a man in connection with the attempted robbery of a taxi driver near Plymouth.

The taxi driver collected three men from Plymouth City Centre around 6am on 29 September last year.

He was paid £15 as a deposit for the journey but when he reached Brixton on the A379 one of the men demanded the money back.

One of the passengers kicked and shattered the glass barrier in the vehicle and then punched the driver several times in the head.

The driver managed to escape but the offenders followed and a scuffle ensued, causing further damage to the vehicle. The offenders ran off into the village.

Police have released a CCTV image of a man they would like to speak to in connection with the attempted robbery and are asking for anyone who recognises him to contact them.

In October a 20-year-old man and a 17-year-old youth from Modbury were arrested on suspicion of attempted robbery and released on police bail until 3 April 2014.

Anyone with information is asked to contact police on 101, quoting crime reference JI/13/841.
