DEVON and Cornwall Police are reporting a good start to 2014 following the success of the force’s New Year's Eve policing operation.

Police dealt with nearly 600 incidents between 10pm and 6am, with demand peaking between 11pm and 3am.

There was no significant disorder or crime over night and no reported raves.

Devon and Cornwall Police deployed 1,368 police officers and 42 Special Constables to police the two counties during the celebrations and were able to meet all calls for police effectively.

The police were also supported by volunteers such as Street Pastors.

Police made 125 arrests mainly for alcohol-related offences such as assault and public order.
