DEVON and Somerset Fire and Rescue’s trading company, Red One, has been working with Stirling Group – a renowned international company providing risk management.

Red One has teamed up with the group, which provides security and training services to the oil and gas industry across the Middle East and North Africa, after an urgent request to train drilling crews working on land-based oil rigs.

Chris Thain, director of Red One, said: “We took the call from Stirling on a Wednesday afternoon to provide access and rescue safety training to a client in Kurdistan, and managed to facilitate an instructor flying to Erbil by the following Sunday morning.

“We had a lot of information to bring together in a very short space of time.

“We had to firstly determine what the scope of work was, as well as the level of expert skills and qualifications required from our instructor.

“We also researched the region and job location, and in close collaboration with Stirling we carried out a detailed risk assessment.

Will Follett, director of Stirling Group said: “Health, safety, security and environment and support services are vital in the oil and gas industry.

“They ensure that clients are able to operate safely and effectively, as well as ensuring compliance with regulations and authority, regardless of the environmental constraints and hazards they face.”

Red One is a wholly-owned trading company of Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue, providing complete fire and safety training, consultancy, industrial sub-contracting and fire equipment testing/commissioning services for businesses in the UK and abroad.
