MID Devon looks set to benefit from a rapid response ambulance service from next year.
Construction work on a new ambulance hub for the South West of England has begun at Exeter's Skypark.
The new base will act as the special operations centre for the ambulance service’s Hazardous Area Response Teams.
Stuart Blatston, HART manager at the ambulance trust, said the new hub’s “ideal location” and proximity to the M5 would “guarantee the delivery of an effective and essential rapid response service for the South West”.
The service will provide cover for serious incidents, including collapsed buildings, hazardous materials and flooding across its area, which includes Mid Devon and the new town of Cranbrook.
The Exeter SOC will operate 24 hours a day and be used as a training and administration facility.
