Council launches fostering recruitment drive
9:58am Wednesday 6th March 2013 in Devon By Mid Devon Star Reporter
Over 700 children are in care in Devon and 300 fostering households are registered, but many carers are reaching retirement age
A CAMPAIGN has been launched to recruit more foster families in Devon.
The county council has over 700 children in care and some 300 fostering households but many carers are approaching retirement age.
There are a number of different types of fostering, from emergency, respite care, temporary and long-term fostering, to specialist schemes helping those with challenging behaviour or looking after young people on remand.
All carers are paid an allowance and anyone can be considered as long as they are over 21 and have a spare bedroom.
An informal drop-in session for interested people to talk to social workers and carers will be held at St Pauls Church on Honiton from 10am to 4pm on Tuesday, March 19.
