Heavy rain and melting snow brings further fears of flooding in Mid Devon over the weekend
12:58pm Friday 25th January 2013 in Devon By Mid Devon Star Reporter
The Met Office has warned of further flooding across the Mid Devon region this weekend as heavy rain combines with melting snow
HEAVY rain coupled with melting snow is expected to cause localised flooding across the region this weekend.
A yellow severe weather alert has been issued by the Met Office warning of potential surface and river flooding.
A band of heavy rain will drench the region from this afternoon (Friday) and throughout the evening as temperatures climb to 7 degrees Celsius – melting all remaining snow and adding to the risk of flooding.
Tomorrow (Saturday) will bring a brief respite from the rain before more heavy rain is expected on Sunday. Anyone concerned about flooding should check the Environment Agency website for flood alerts at www.environment-agency.gov.uk or call its free-phone Floodline on 0845 988 1188.
