HEAVY rain coupled with melting snow is expected to cause localised flooding across the region this weekend.
A yellow severe weather alert has been issued by the Met Office warning of potential surface and river flooding.
A band of heavy rain will drench the region from this afternoon (Friday) and throughout the evening as temperatures climb to 7 degrees Celsius – melting all remaining snow and adding to the risk of flooding.
Tomorrow (Saturday) will bring a brief respite from the rain before more heavy rain is expected on Sunday. Anyone concerned about flooding should check the Environment Agency website for flood alerts at www.environment-agency.gov.uk or call its free-phone Floodline on 0845 988 1188.
