A WELLINGTON teenager is flying out to Nepal to work in medicine.

Jennifer Priday, 18, of Laburnum Road, will spend two weeks volunteering with Projects Abroad, working with the native doctors, learning invaluable experience and offering support to medical teams in tough surroundings.

Jennifer said: “I’m going at the end of June to volunteer in a medical setting, working alongside Nepalese doctors, helping them as much as possible, while gaining valuable experience and knowledge.”

The former Court Fields School student will stay with a host family and hopes to gain valuable experience ahead of a possible university degree.

“I hope what I learn will assist me in my future career of medicine, which I hope to start in September when enrolling at university,” said Jennifer, who attended Ric-hard Huish College in Taunton.

“I had an interview for Plymouth University, but I’m still waiting to hear back. I’ve also applied to Exeter, Brighton and Southampton.

“Staying with a family will give me the opportunity to adapt to their way of life and learn more about their culture.

“This is going to be a great trip, and I’m looking forward to meeting new people, learning new things and gaining new experience.”

Peter Slowe, director of Projects Abroad, said: “We’re really pleased Jennifer’s doing this. The people in Nepal are looking forward to meeting her and definitely want her to bring pictures of Somerset with her.”
