Cullompton people brought together through hugs
2:50pm Monday 30th July 2012 in Cullompton
A CAMPAIGN has been launched to celebrate and bring together Cullompton ’s diverse population...using hugs.
The campaign, called ‘Hug Cullompton’, is the brainchild of a group called Culm Valley Open Circle, who regularly meet in the town. Though they love Cullompton, members of the group say many others who live there have a negative view of the town, which the ‘Hug Cullompton’ campaign aims to do something about.
The group will begin with a craft, diversity and well being fair at Cullompton Community Centre on Saturday, September 15, giving individuals, groups and small businesses the chance to exhibit, run a workshop or seminar, give a performance or talk, or present a showcase.
They will also be at the Mid Devon Show on the Cullompton traders’ stand offering free hugs.
Sue Keeping, the group’s spokesperson, said: “Cullompton is a great place to live and there is a lot going on here which people don’t know about. “As a group we felt that the spiritual energy was being zapped by negativity in the town, so we’ve decided to do something positive about it.
“For those who want them we will be offering actual hugs, and for those who prefer a less hands-on approach we will be handing out cards with a free hug on them and mentioning Cullompton. “People can either keep them or pass them on to someone else.
“By helping people feel a bit more positive about themselves and the town where they live, Cullompton can become a better place to be.”

We need to use reason and education to prevent people from being distracted and wasting their energy on this nonsense.
There are far more important things to be doing right now.
