Age UK mobility and fitness tests coming to Cullompton
11:19am Thursday 14th June 2012 in Cullompton
Elderly people ready to test their mobility with members of Age UK Tiverton, Cullompton and District
PEOPLE living in Tiverton and Cullompton are being encouraged to have their mobility and fitness tested next week as part of Age UK's Falls Awareness Week, which runs from today until June 22.
The event, which will be held at Cullompton Community Centre in the morning hours and at Cullompton's Hayridge Centre during the afternoon, will include the opportunity to measure your mobility before receiving advice and help on how to make improvements. People in later life and health practitioners from across the region are invited to turn up and find out what they can do to help prevent falls.
Lloyd Yorke of Age UK Tiverton, Cullompton and District, said: “I have witnessed for myself the wonderful work that the team of professionals provide during the Falls Awareness Week.
“It is sad to think that according to results from the ICM Research for Help the Aged in 2008, over 78,000 people are afraid to leave the house because of a fear of falling. We would encourage as many older members of our local community to attend these special events in Cullompton so they can feel more confident and reduce the risk of falls in the future.”
