NEARLY 40 swimmers took part in the recent Swimathon at Exe Valley Leisure Centre, raising funds for Marie Curie cancer care.

Swimmers of various ages and abilities joined in, swimming between 1.5k and 5k – which equates to 200 lengths of the pool.

It’s anticipated that almost £5,000 will eventually be raised from the various swimmers who participated, with £895 being raised from one group of dedicated young ladies from Tiverton swimming club/Blundell’s Prep school. Another group of more senior swimmers have raised over £1,000 and have been simply amazed at everyone’s generosity.

They also said how much they enjoyed the event and are already looking forward to the next one.

Martin Palk, EVLC Pool Manager said: “The Swimathon event was a fantastic way to bring our community together, to raise money for charity, and provided a great challenge for our dedicated swimmers.

“Thank you to everyone who took part and for all those who helped with both the organisation and the length counting.”
