REPRESENTATIVES from the Environment Agency, Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue and Devon and Cornwall Police will all be present at a Cullompton Town Council meeting next month, to help establish future flooding action plans.

The public meeting on Tuesday May 13 at Cullompton Town Hall will help to establish a group of volunteers willing to assist the authorities in the event of severe flooding, as seen in late-2012.

As well as Town Councillors and the Environment Agency, representatives of Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service, Devon and Cornwall Police, Devon County Council and Mid Devon District Council will be in attendance.

The Town Council is inviting members of the public to come along to find out more about what different organisations do in a flood and learn how they can get involved - either in developing the flood plan or becoming a flood volunteer for Cullompton.

There will be short presentations from partner organisations together with examples of individual property protection devices, such as air brick covers and door barriers.

Jane Fletcher-Peters of the Environment Agency said: “In view of the recent severe weather, we think it is very important that local people are aware of the potential flood risks in Cullompton and what can be done to mitigate them, so we would like to see as many Cullompton residents at the meeting as possible”.

Doors open at 5pm on Tuesday 13 May and the meeting will run from 5.30pm to 7.30pm - refreshments will be available.
