IF you always lose when it comes to pulling Christmas crackers, then perhaps throwing a cracker is more your forté?

Tiverton will host the inaugural World Christmas Cracker Throwing Championships as part of its Christmas Festival programme on Saturday, December 14.

Competitors must attempt to throw a single Christmas cracker as far as possible.

The competition is open to men, women and children with prizes for all categories.

Sally Raynes, Wacky Nation’s event director, said: “We are thrilled to be organising this new and exciting family- friendly Christmas event on behalf of the Tiverton Trade Association and the Portas Town Team.

“Wacky throwing events take place all around the country and prove extremely popular but very few such events happen over the festive period.

“We hope people will be inspired to visit Tiverton town centre for our festive Christmas Cracker Chuck.”

Cllr Sue Griggs, chairman of the Tiverton Portas Team, said: “This is a great fun addition to our Tiverton Christmas Festival Programme and we hope the people of Tiverton and the surrounding area will be enthused to come along and take part and at the same time experience all the great shops Tiverton has to offer.”

It is expected the winning distance could be decided by a matter of centimetres, so everyone should start practising now – but save a few crackers for pulling on Christmas Day.
