SCHOOLCHILDREN have been highlighting the problem of dog fouling in Cullompton.

With the help of Rover the Dog and the elusive Dog Poo Fairy, youngsters from St Andrew’s Primary School have been working with Mid Devon District Council’s dog wardens to spray dog mess left behind with pink paint.

The Paint it Pink Campaign was thought up by Cllr Nikki Woollatt, who said the novel idea has really caught people’s imaginations.

She said: “I’ve had lots of positive comments from parents at the school regarding the campaign, and I’ve even had a phone call from a member of the public who had seen the posters and some ‘pink poo’.”

Jan Norman, Environmental Enforcement Manager, said: “We’ve seen an increase in the number of dog fouling complaints in the past 12 months.

“The Paint it Pink campaign is a fantastic way to engage with the community. Not clearing up after your dog is a criminal offence and will not be tolerated.

“We would encourage anyone who has witnessed this irresponsible behaviour to report it to us.”
