TWO students from Queen Elizabeth’s, Crediton, beat off stiff competition from students at Newton Abbot, Teignmouth and Exmouth schools to take first and third place in the Future Chef area final competition.

Year 10 food students Holly McCluskey and Ruby Payn wowed judges with their dishes to reach the regional final in the New Year.

Ruby, who took first place, cooked chicken breast stuffed with sundried tomatoes, served with parmentier potatoes and roasted vine tomatoes, followed by apple and date crumble.

Holly, who took third place, served the judges cream cheese and herb-stuffed chicken breast followed by a tiramisu.

Holly and Ruby will represent the school at the regional final at the Michael Caines Academy, Exeter College, in January 2015.

Food technology teacher Sue Vanden said: “I am immensely proud of both the girls. For both of them to be in the top three is not only a huge achievement for them but also the school.

“I wish them the best of luck for the next round in January.”
