Specsavers raise money for David Shepherd Cricket Foundation

Staff at Specsavers have raised £55 for the David Shepherd Cricket Foundation by raffling designer glasses and shirts, polo shirts and caps given by Devon County Cricket Club.

Additional funds are being raised over the next week through collections and ‘spectacle MOTs’ in exchange for donations.

Tiverton Specsavers store director Scott McGowan said: “We’re always keen to support local charities and are now half way towards our target of £111 during our first fundraiser for the foundation.”

The target is symbolic of David Shepherd. During his career as an umpire and player, he was famously superstitious about the number 111 as it resembles a set of stumps without bails. He became famous for jumping when the score was at 111 and became synonymous with the number.

The opticians is staging the fundraiser as part of its partnership with the county club.
