Number of pets reaches epidemic levels, say charity Blue Cross

PET charity Blue Cross, which has a rehoming centre in Tiverton, is warning that the number of unwanted kittens, puppies and pregnant pets has reached epidemic levels.

It is a trend that Blue Cross wants to reverse and they launched their Big Neutering Campaign last week to stamp out irresponsible breeding and raise awareness.

Sarah Bussell, Blue Cross centre manager, said: 'We're seeing pets increasingly being treated like disposable items - abandoned outside our centre, dumped like rubbish or even killed.

“The problem is there are simply too many animals for too few good homes. Supply is greater than demand and every year we're seeing an increase in the need for our services.”
