Appeal following 'cowardly' knifepoint robbery in Plymouth

Police are appealing for information after a taxi driver was held at knifepoint and robbed of cash on Saturday, July 7 in Plymouth.

The incident occurred between 6.45am and 6.50am in the area of Fox Tor Close in West Park.

The taxi was called from a telephone kiosk in West Park by a man who got into the back of the taxi and threatened the driver with a kitchen knife with a three inch blade before taking his cash. The man ran off in the direction of Shaldon Crescent.

The suspect is described as white, in his late teens or early twenties, 5ft 8, slim build, wearing dark clothing and a beanie hat. He spoke with a local accent.

The taxi driver, who was driving a black saloon, was unhurt but very shaken.

DC Kevan Lawson, from CID, said: “This was a cowardly assault on a person just trying to honestly earn a living. Police are appealing for anyone who was in the area of West Park at that time who may have seen or know of anyone matching the description of this man, or seen the taxi pick him up.”
