Exeter businesses urged to have their say on health and safety at work
5:00pm Monday 25th June 2012 in News
BUSINESSES in Exeter are being asked to complete a health and safety survey so that Exeter City Council can determine what level of support and advice is needed across the city.
The council is keen to hear employers' views on health and safety in the workplace.
Cllr Greg Sheldon, lead councillor for environment and leisure, said: "A third of businesses think that health and safety is an obstacle to growth, yet are often confused about the scope of regulations, not necessarily distinguishing between legal requirements and recommendations. For example, the law doesn’t require electrical appliances to be tested every year; it simply states that that they must be maintained to prevent danger." To help the council understand how businesses perceive health and safety in their workplaces, employers in the city are being asked to complete a short on-line questionnaire.
The survey, which takes only takes a few minutes to complete and is entirely anonymous, can be found at www.exeter.gov.uk/healthandsafetysurvey
